Linen is a material used to make linen dresses and other clothing items. It comes from a plant called flax, which was cultivated by many families in the ancient world. Indeed, there is evidence that suggests that flax was grown in ancient Georgia. The ancient Egyptians used linen as a status symbol, and it is probably from them that we get the knack for using flax to produce linen for making linen dresses and other clothing items.

Linen dresses were not that popular in the early twentieth century. It is not until the world ushered in the last decade of the century that linen dresses started becoming a popular clothing item. Statistics indicate that in the early 19760s and early 1970s, linen dresses were worn by at most five percent of the population. This is very different when the years of the last decade of the century are examined. In the years of the nineties, at least seventy percent of women had at the very least one linen dress in their wardrobe. Linen dresses had effectively taken over the fashion world.

Why linen dresses are popular

Linen Dresses

Many factors have contributed to the popularity of linen dresses all over the world. However, one main factor stands out. It is mainly because linen dresses are the best clothes to wear during the summer that has made them so popular with women during periods of high temperatures. Linen is not like velvet, polyester, or any other kind of material that is known to adhere to the skin during hot weather.

Linen will allow the skin to breathe freely during hot weather, thus helping to keep the skin cool when the sun is crying out for vengeance. This fact has made the linen dress a favorite among brides and their maids during weddings. A bride to be who does not use linen dresses for her wedding during hot weather will be making a huge mistake. Her maids will definitely not be too happy with wearing dresses that will stifle them during the entire ceremony.

Disadvantages of linen dresses

There is one disadvantage to linen dresses. This is the fact that linen dresses can crease quickly and these wrinkles can sometimes stay on the dress for a very long time. However, the redeeming factor seems to be that linen dresses can stay without wrinkles in tropical climates. This is attributed to the fact that tropical climates have high humidity levels and the moisture has a straightening effect on linen clothing material.

As such, linen dresses will not present any problems if worn in a humid area. They will provide the comfort and the style that so many women crave for. It should also be noted that manufacturers and dress makers all over the world have started coming up with ingenious methods of making sure that the deadly weakness of linen dresses (wrinkles) is eliminated for good.

In conclusion, every woman should have a linen dress in the closet for the hot summer months.
